Great Article on

Huge congratulations are in order.Father Ray Kelly has made it through to the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals.
The 64-year-old priest from Oldcastle, Co Meath became a viral sensation in 2014 after his special cover performance of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah captured hearts across the country.
He auditioned for Britain's Got Talent earlier this year, where he left judges and viewers alike with his rendition of R.E.M's Everybody Hurts.

Simon Cowell even ended up calling it "one of my favourite ever auditions."
It looks like we'll be set to see a lot more of Fr. Kelly, as Saturday night's episode showed him getting through to the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals.
Before it was his turn to take to the stage, he was seen telling another contestant:
"I have visions of going back to my parish and telling them I got through to Britain's Got Talent.  It would blow their minds, you know."
Alongside three other acts, the Meath native waited to hear the verdict.
Amanda Holden was the one who got to deliver the good news, telling the performers: "Only on Britain's Got Talent could this line-up be possible. And we have come to a decision."
Turning directly to address Fr. Kelly, she said: "You better thank him upstairs, sir, because you're all through to the next round."
He will now join the other 34 contestants who were selected as well as the five Golden Buzzers acts, who have already secured their place in the live semi-finals.

 Another news bit

Here is a great article in the AngloCelt online:

The Body of the Article:
by Sean McMahon
Reporting from Oldcastle
The calm and tranquil setting that dominates the Parochial House in Oldcastle was a stark contrast on Monday evening to the glitz and glamour of the stage of the London Palladium and Britain’s Got Talent where local parish priest Fr Ray Kelly made a huge impression.
The parish priest has become an overnight international singing sensational after his audition was broadcast on ITV and TV3 last Saturday night. He is now the third favourite with the bookies to win the show outright - with odds of 10/1 - behind rival acts Rise and Marc Spellman. His popularity makes him a dead cert for the live semi finals.
Fr Ray’s rendition of REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ moved the audience to tears and earned him a standing ovation. His performance also prompted Simon Cowell to comment that it was one of his “favourite ever” auditions on the show; while all four judges put him through to the next round.
The Anglo-Celt visited Fr Ray Kelly in his home on Monday evening and, over cups of strong tea, the tired cleric had come right back down to earth after flying in from London a few hours earlier. He was fresh from his appearance on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ with Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.
The Celt also understands that he is likely to appear on the Late Late Show this Friday night.

Oldcastle parish priest Fr Ray Kelly went down a storm on last night’s Episode of Britain’s Got Talent with his audition prompting chief Judge Simon Cowell to say it was one of his “favourite” ever auditions on the show.Fr Ray Kelly (64) moved the audience first to tears and then to their feet with his rendition of REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’. His performance earned him a resounding four big ‘yeses’ from the judging panel.Asked why he chose that particular song, Fr Ray said: “It’s a song that’s near and dear to my heart. I suppose being a priest, you get in touch with a lot of pain and joy and happiness as well so I feel it’s a song that I can relate to.”Responding to Simon as to why he entered the show, Fr Ray said: “I thought maybe I’d be the first singing priest to win Britain’s Got Talent.”Fr Ray is no stranger to Celt readers. The singing priest, as he is known locally, went viral four years ago when his performance at a wedding went viral. In April 2014, Fr Ray surprised a couple on their wedding day by singing a version of ‘Hallelujah’ from the altar. The video has been watched over 60 million times and resulted in a Late Late Show appearance.Check out Fr Ray’s audition here – which saw him progress to the next stage of the competition, the selection for the live semi finals.
