 Another news bit

Here is a great article in the AngloCelt online:

The Body of the Article:
by Sean McMahon
Reporting from Oldcastle
The calm and tranquil setting that dominates the Parochial House in Oldcastle was a stark contrast on Monday evening to the glitz and glamour of the stage of the London Palladium and Britain’s Got Talent where local parish priest Fr Ray Kelly made a huge impression.
The parish priest has become an overnight international singing sensational after his audition was broadcast on ITV and TV3 last Saturday night. He is now the third favourite with the bookies to win the show outright - with odds of 10/1 - behind rival acts Rise and Marc Spellman. His popularity makes him a dead cert for the live semi finals.
Fr Ray’s rendition of REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ moved the audience to tears and earned him a standing ovation. His performance also prompted Simon Cowell to comment that it was one of his “favourite ever” auditions on the show; while all four judges put him through to the next round.
The Anglo-Celt visited Fr Ray Kelly in his home on Monday evening and, over cups of strong tea, the tired cleric had come right back down to earth after flying in from London a few hours earlier. He was fresh from his appearance on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ with Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.
The Celt also understands that he is likely to appear on the Late Late Show this Friday night.

Oldcastle parish priest Fr Ray Kelly went down a storm on last night’s Episode of Britain’s Got Talent with his audition prompting chief Judge Simon Cowell to say it was one of his “favourite” ever auditions on the show.Fr Ray Kelly (64) moved the audience first to tears and then to their feet with his rendition of REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’. His performance earned him a resounding four big ‘yeses’ from the judging panel.Asked why he chose that particular song, Fr Ray said: “It’s a song that’s near and dear to my heart. I suppose being a priest, you get in touch with a lot of pain and joy and happiness as well so I feel it’s a song that I can relate to.”Responding to Simon as to why he entered the show, Fr Ray said: “I thought maybe I’d be the first singing priest to win Britain’s Got Talent.”Fr Ray is no stranger to Celt readers. The singing priest, as he is known locally, went viral four years ago when his performance at a wedding went viral. In April 2014, Fr Ray surprised a couple on their wedding day by singing a version of ‘Hallelujah’ from the altar. The video has been watched over 60 million times and resulted in a Late Late Show appearance.Check out Fr Ray’s audition here – which saw him progress to the next stage of the competition, the selection for the live semi finals.

Simon Cowell leads standing ovation for vicar with voice of an angel who moves Britain's Got Talent audience to tears in heart-wrenching audition

He was utterly moved y the vicar's beautiful performance of REM's Everybody Hurts which had the audience in tears

A vicar with a beautiful voice moved the audience to tears on Britain's Got Talent - and even stony-faced Simon Cowell led the standing ovation.
Father Ray Kelly, 64, a parish priest in Oldcastle, County Meath, in Ireland, said he decided to audition for the show when a film of him singing in church went viral on YouTube.

But no-one could prepare for what was to follow, as he performed a beautiful rendition of REM's Everybody Hurts, which he said was apt as, in his role as a priest, he is often bringing comfort to people.
There was not a dry eye in the house as he started softly, before letting rip in the chorus, evoking a huge reaction from the crowd.
Even he was emotional as he sang, and you could hear a pin drop as his vocal stylings came to an end.
But just when it seemed like silence would prevail, Simon stood up and began applauding the vicar, and he was quickly followed by his fellow judges and the entire auditorium.
Father Ray was visibly moved at this act, and tried to hold it together as the judges gave their verdict.
David Walliams said of his "beautiful" performance: "I've never seen a priest stand at a microphone and sing like that.
"You did it with such soul and passion - it just was a really, really beautiful performance."
Alesha Dixon added that his "soothing and calming" voice had people relating to things that were personal to them while Amanda Holden commented that "the whole congregation" was behind him.
Finally, Simon said his audition was one of his favourites ever, which clearly made the vicar incredibly emotional.
He said: "I wasn't quite sure what to expect to be honest with you, but I want to tell you this is one of my favourite ever auditions, I really mean that.
"I think your voice is beautiful, I love the version of the song; this is everything we have been waiting for."
As Father Ray walked offstage and told Ant and Dec he was an "emotional wreck."
Britain's Got Talent airs at 8pm on Saturday on ITV.

Happy 2018 everyone!

This beautiful message from the official Facebook Page:

2018 is almost upon us, so as we begin another new year, we take this opportunity that this new beginning affords all of us, as the limited and imperfect human beings that we are, to make another effort to reach whatever stage of perfection or imperfection that, with God’s help it is in us to reach.
Thank you all my friends for journeying with me during 2017 and, may I wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR
